The video tells about the French super-heavy tank of the First World War - Char 2C or FCM 2C, which was the largest of all production tanks ever put into service in the world. Consider the history of the creation of the tank, purpose, weapons, armor and other technical
features of the French heavyweight, as well as the tactics of combat use. Why did each tank have its own name and why does it need a crew of 12 people? You will learn all this by watching this video.
Char 2C (fr. Tank 2C, in a number of sources referred to as FCM 2C) - French super-heavy tank. Developed during the First World War, but did not take part in hostilities. The Char 2C is the largest metric tank ever to enter service in the world, and the second largest ever built (second only to the Russian Tsar Tank on a wheeled chassis).
The tank was in service with the French army until World War II, but like the Soviet T-35 heavy tank close to it, by this time it was morally and technically obsolete.
The Char 2C tank was created primarily to break through long-term positional defense, reinforced by numerous engineering obstacles, which largely determined the features of its design. It had a high rhombic hull covered with caterpillar tracks. A similar design was chosen based on the requirements for maximum maneuverability: the tank easily overcame a 4-meter-wide anti-tank ditch, climbed a 1.2-meter-high wall and easily demolished trees and engineering barriers with its hull.
